François Levaillant (1767-1809)
Jacques Barraband was the finest ornithological artist of his time. The son of a weaver at the Aubusson factory, he is known to have worked for both the Gobelin factory and the porcelain factory of Sevres. Among his most important works are those he made to illustrate François Le Vaillant's scientific monographs on birds including parrots, birds of paradise, and toucans.
