Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1556)

Born in Bavaria at the height of the German Renaissance, Leonhart Fuchs is known as one of the fathers of Botany. He became professor of medicine at Tublingen. His herbal was intended to be studied by his fellow physicians, many of whom had little knowledge of the range of useful plants and their habits.
